Stratford-Grangecon Five Year Plan Launch
Work began last February with each section researching and sourcing as much data as possible. There were meetings held at all times of the day and night and all the sections were put into draft form. The help of Geraldine Cole was a God send. Her attention to detail and the perfection in every aspect was vital in having our final product something we could be proud of. Our ultimate goal was to produce a document which would take us over the next five years in every aspect of the club e.g. coaching, code of conduct, finance, development of club facilities and pitches and the development of every player involved in our club.
The president arrived at 7.30pm and was greeted by a guard of honour fully togged out in the club colours maroon and white. The sun stayed out long enough for the president to meet and greet the committee, each player and the mentors. This was followed by a group photo taken outside the club house.
Upstairs the proceedings opened with a speech from the President of the Wicklow County Board, Mr Peter Keogh who welcomed the President Mr Liam O’Neill to Wicklow. Hugh O’Keeffe Chairman of the Stratford/Grangecon club welcomed the President to the Stratford/Grangecon club for the official launch of the 5 year plan. County chairman Mick O’Hagan spoke of his great pleasure at this great event. Billy Byrne spoke on behalf of the steering team which include Peter Case and Richard Burke who are assisting all clubs in the county to put their plan in place.
Chairman of Stratford/Grangecon Club gave his address and stressed “To have successfully completed the development plan is a considerable achievement however there is more to be done. We must actively engage with this plan and work to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves. This will be a challenge to our small club. For this reason I am particularly pleased that the Uachtaráin here tonight is Liam O’Neill. A man we KNOW understands, at first hand, the challenges that face a small club. Resources are stretched and the loss of players due to emigration has a serious impact on all clubs but more profoundly on clubs like ours. Subsequently small clubs need to work harder. They must develop the potential in every child.”
Hugh O’Keeffe presented Liam O’Neill with the Stratford/Grangecon 5 year plan. President Liam O’Neill in his address spoke of his pleasure at attending this event in the Stratford/Grangecon club, a small club similar to his own. He spoke about the young smiling faces of the juveniles in the guard of honour and he said that unlike all the doom and gloom in the country at the moment, community spirit like what was on show tonight will help every small area to turn a corner and get us all out of this recession.
He was impressed with the document and said he would be keeping an eye on the progress of the different aspects over the coming years.
As a mark of appreciation to the President, some of the juvenile members helped him to plant a tree in the grounds to signify the future growth of the club.
There were refreshments which included a BBQ, a pig on a spit and lots of other delicious food for the huge crowd of invited guests, players, mentors and all the extended community.
Many thanks to all the people who gave their time in the big clean-up of the grounds and the club house, to all who baked and helped in the preparation and the serving of the food. The night was a resounding success and showed how proud the community is as a whole.
